How Much Wire Do You Need?

Do not have an idea how much wire will be used for wireless fences to cover a specific area? Here's a wire guide table to save dog owners from excessive wire buys.

Innotek and Petsafe wireless fences from WirelessFences-4Less, come with standard 500 feet of 20-gauge wire. The provided wire is enough in most cases; but for those who want to expand the coverage of the containment, additional wires are available for purchase. 50 marker flags and two wire splices are also included in each dog fencing kit.

Use Only Burial Approved Boundary Wire

Always remember that the gauge of wires has nothing to do with difference in longevity. But if owners want to have a long-lasting dog fences use only waterproof Polyurethane Coated wire with solid copper core. Burial Approved Wire are proven to be more durable and efficient.

Should I Use 18-gauge or 20-gauge wire?

Manufacturers of dog fences design and build their containment systems to use 20 gauge wires. . We ship all of our containment systems with Premium, Heavy-duty, 20 Gauge Wire but a WIREUPGRADE option can also be arranged. If owners want an additional 500ft. of 18-Gauge with the system, which can be purchased with any containment system. Please see wire guide below to determine the proper gauge of wire for the use. Remember, 18 gauge wire cannot be purchased from the local pet store and cannot be found in some pet supply catalog.

Use 20-Gauge if:
» For smooth, loose soil or clay
» If laying the wire next to a fence
» The yard has few trees or vegetation.

Use 18-Gauge if:
» Rocky soil
» If installing the wire above ground
» The yard has many trees
